History of Our Institution
Estd.1945
We are very proud to inform you that we have now crossed the 75th mile stone in the service of Girls education through our K.R.C. A.R.C. Girls’ Higher Secondary School. This School is one of the pioneer schools in Chennai which caters to the needs of Girls education.
Sri A.Ramanujulu Chetty Garu who was pioneer in the field of Primary Education, soon became so popular and Lord Pentland the then Governor of Madras, visited the school in 1912. The Management of this School passed onto his Son-in-law Sri.K.Ramiah Chetty in 1921. He managed this Elementary School, with his rare intellectual brilliance.
Sri. K.Ramiah Chetty started his life as a humble teacher under his late Father - in law Sri.A.Ramanujulu Chetty Garu. He started the institution exclusively for girls at a time, when the girls education was not encouraged. He was a man of great dimensions and vision and his fore thinking prompted him to start a girls school in those days. Thus, the Girls’ High School came into existence in June 1946.
Founder Shri.K.Ramiah Chetty and other members of the School
Under the able guidance of Sri. K.Ramiah Chetty, the school grew from strength to strength, imparting good education to the average and down trodden girl students of this locality. New buildings to house the increasing number of classes and students sprang up in Saiva Muthiah Street, Chennai-1. The play-ground was opened by Sri.Kamaraj Nadar, the then Chief Minister of Madras in the year 1960. ‘Sri Krishna Nivas’ - another building was declared open by Sri Bishnuram Medhi -the then Governor of Madras in the year 1963 and yet another building Nehru Science Block, was opened by Shri. M.Bhakthavatsalam, the then Chief Minister of Madras in 1963.
The School celebrated its Silver Jubilee along with the Golden Jubilee of the services of its Founder Sri.K.Ramiah Chetty in 1971, under the presidentship of Sri. Ujjail Singh, the then Governor of Madras. The School was then renamed as K.Ramiah Chetty A.R.C. Girls’ Higher Secondary School, as a token of gratitude to the Founder’s yeomen services rendered to the institution. His services in other fields are varied and many. His activities in other fields such as Teacher-Managers Association, Scouting, Management of Temples, Benefit Funds, Co-operative Societies and Orphanages are very well known. After the demise of Shri.K.Ramiah Chetty, in 1976, the school administration went to Smt.R.Padmavathi, his illustrious daughter. She developed the school into Higher Secondary School in 1977.
After Smt.R.Padmavathi’s demise in 2000, the Management of this School is now in the hands of her family members who take a keen interest in the welfare of this institution, its staff and pupils.
This institution has enabled thousands of Girls to come up in life in flying colours, occupying high posts and some are even working in foreign countries.
